Maisie Williams and Lowri Roberts: Activism and Creativity at Green Man

Co-founders of Rapt Pictures Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones, Doctor Who) and Lowri Roberts discussed activism, creativity and told climate stories at Green Man Festival 2026.

Drawing on their efforts to drive positive environmental change, the pair confronted the messy reality of trying to do good in an imperfect world. Through candid stories, missteps, and lessons learned, they asked a vital question: is it better to show up and get things wrong, or not show up at all? The talk encouraged action over perfection, celebrating the power of ‘just having a go’.  

They reflected on the research and development (R&D) undertaken for their film, The One Percent, which was funded by Media Cymru and Ffilm Cymru Wales’s Greening the Screen fund.

A climate-positive, nearly-end-of-the-world feature film in which the Earth is deteriorating, but there’s a ship to save 1% of people in the UK. Money and fame have no clout, manual skills and resourcefulness are most valuable.  

Rapt aim to target audiences with little interest in the climate crisis and demonstrate how they hold power and can make a difference. They will survey and study demographics across the political spectrum, investigating their engagement with climate policies, and what they want to see and feel from films.      

Writers Lowri Roberts and Maisie Williams say “Getting audience feedback at this stage of development is a new way of working for us, and is proving to be invaluable. We’re used to feedback from fellow people working in film, but to hear from audiences directly is helping us avoid speaking into an echo chamber.” 

The fund supported solutions to green challenges in the screen industry and supported the scale-up of sustainable products, services, and processes.
