BBC Cymru Wales and Media Cymru announce Climate Content Innovation Fund
The 2024 funding round is for Wales-based production companies to research, develop and commission innovation-driven content to engage audiences with the climate crisis across Wales and beyond.
Following the first Content Innovation Fund in 2022 – which awarded grants to Boom Cymru and Little Bird Films to test and implement innovative technologies into their content production – this latest fund is focused on innovative climate content for a mainstream audience.
Nick Andrews Head of Content Commissioning says: “It’s terrific to be working with Media Cymru again and this fund will no doubt fire the imagination of our creative community. This time our focus is on the climate crisis and it’s fitting that we’re launching this fund here in Cardiff as part of the BBC’s pan UK Climate Creatives Conference 2024.”
Professor Justin Lewis, Director of Media Cymru, says: “We’re delighted to partner with BBC Cymru Wales on this great opportunity to drive forward our joint ambitions to research and develop innovative approaches to engaging audiences with content which tells the story of the climate crisis.
“This exciting new round of funding will introduce a new cohort on the path towards a potential commission, generating innovative new skills and techniques as they create new ways to engage and inspire.
We are looking forward to receiving applications…”
Up to five Wales-based companies will be chosen to develop ambitious ideas for climate content, each receiving up to £20,000. Funded projects may result in the BBC commissioning a programme idea.
We are particularly interested in projects that address Media Cymru’s four strategic pillars: Green, Fair, Global, Growth (read more about Media Cymru’s Pillars).
Applications for this year’s BBC Content Innovation Fund open this year on Wednesday 2 October and close at midday on Monday 8 November.
