Virtual Production: camera tracking and motion capture demonstration

Event Date: 11.05.2023

Time: 12:00 - 5:00pm

Location: Atrium, University of South Wales, CF24 2FN

Get hands-on with cutting-edge tracking systems and learn to streamline High-End TV, Games and Immersive Production in this Virtual Production demonstration, led by specialist technology solutions provider Target3D.

Find out how to track cameras and performers to deliver the latest virtual production workflows.

Three separate 90 minutes sessions have been scheduled and each session will include the same content, so please sign-up for one only.

Three main technologies are being showcased:

  • HTC Vive Mars CamTrack
  • Vanishing Point
  • OptiTrack.

For the demonstration an 8-camera PrimeX 13 OptiTrack system will be used to capture motion data. This data can then be used to drive the movement of virtual characters or objects in real-time within the virtual environment. The technologies being showcased in represent the cutting edge of virtual production and camera tracking. By combining these tools, filmmakers and virtual production teams can create high-quality, immersive experiences that blur the line between reality and virtual environments.

The HTC Vive Mars CamTrack is a virtual production camera tracking system that allows for real-time camera tracking and positioning within a virtual environment. It uses Vive’s Lighthouse tracking technology and a combination of hardware and software to track the camera’s position and orientation, enabling filmmakers and virtual production teams to seamlessly blend live-action footage with virtual environments.

Vanishing Point is a virtual production software tool that allows for real-time compositing and rendering of virtual environments. It provides a suite of tools for creating and manipulating virtual environments, including virtual sets, lighting, and effects. Vanishing Point’s real-time rendering capabilities allow filmmakers and virtual production teams to see their final shot in real-time, making it easier to make creative decisions and iterate quickly.

OptiTrack is a motion capture system that uses a set of cameras to track the movement of objects or people in real time. The system can capture and record the movement of objects with high precision and accuracy, making it an ideal tool for virtual production and other motion capture applications.
