Launching the Wales Screen Workforce Survey 2026

Calling all Wales screen sector workers, we need your help!

In 2022 we launched The Wales Screen Workforce Survey, a Wales-wide survey from Media Cymru and the University of South Wales, designed to assess the skills and training needs, attitudes and experience of people working across the screen sector. As well as Film and TV, that survey also included Games, Animation, VFX, Post-production and corporate production. Read more about the results of the 2022 Workforce survey.

The results of the 2022 survey acted as a foundation for the wide range of training programmes that Media Cymru x USW have delivered since 2023, training 280 people across 17 training programmes, with more than 34 specific interventions, as well as supporting 21 individual freelancers to access relevant training, through the Freelancer Development Fund.

As we enter the final year of the Media Cymru programme, we are eager to hear from you again. We would like to invite you to participate in the Wales Screen Workforce Survey 2026, which is being conducted on behalf of Media Cymru, led by our team of researchers at USW.

The aim? To reflect the diversity, strengths and needs of the small businesses and freelance talent that are the beating heart of our industry, and provide a specific picture of the demographics, skillsets and training priorities of the workforce of the Welsh Screen Sector.

This research will help inform future skills and training provision in the screen sector, and provide a voice for this dynamic workforce, by enabling us to map the wider skills requirements of the screen sector in Wales that contribute to innovation and growth.

The survey should take between 15-25 minutes to complete, and is available in Welsh and English. We hugely appreciate your time and input in sharing your perspectives and expertise, and hope you take this opportunity to add your voice to the future of screen work in Wales!

Survey closes 27 March 2026.
