Diversity in TV Production

Improving diversity in TV Production in South Wales by recruiting a workforce more reflective of our society.

What is Diversity in TV Production?

This project aims to improve diversity in TV production in South Wales by recruiting a workforce more reflective of our society with a focus on class, race, and disability.

Channel 4 is:

  • Working with talent in Wales to challenge and improve their ways of working
  • Investing in skills and training opportunities for Welsh talent around building a more accessible and inclusive sector
  • Commissioning innovative new content which represents the people and stories of Wales.

Inclusion Accelerator Project with Gritty Talent

In 2024, Channel 4 (and BBC Cymru Wales) supported Gritty Talent and the University of South Wales for the Inclusion Accelerator Project. The programme led inclusive leadership training for Welsh-based screen businesses to super charge their diversity and inclusion activities.

Cymru Broadcast Centre – streaming live from Cardiff during the Paralympic games

In conjunction with the Paralympics 2024, Channel 4 and Media Cymru supported production company Whisper to create an inclusive and sustainable remote production facility in Cardiff. Channel 4 streamed more than 1,300 hours of Paralympics live content from the new Cymru Broadcast Centre.

Media Cymru and Channel 4 co-funded the research and development (R&D) around accessibility in live production with The Ability People – with the hope of acting as a case study for other technical facilities to use as best practice and share learnings.
