The Production Guild of Great Britain’s Welsh Committee to host sustainability event in partnership with Creative Wales, Media Cymru and Ffilm Cymru Wales

A large wind turbine with three blades stands prominently in a green landscape. Behind it, an industrial building with a flat roof is surrounded by trees and fields. Further back, a residential area with houses is visible, with hills in the distance under a partly cloudy sky.

The Production Guild of Great Britain’s (PGGB) Welsh Committee, has joined forces with Creative Wales the Welsh Government’s agency that promotes the growth of the Welsh creative industries, Media Cymru and Ffilm Cymru Wales to host a sustainability showcase on 2 July 2025 at Great Point Studios, Cardiff. The latter were integral in creating and developing the Screen New Deal Wales Transformation Plan, alongside BAFTA albert, the BFI and Arup, as a pilot project with a roadmap of sustainability recommendations towards achieving net zero carbon productions across the UK film and TV industry.

This inaugural Welsh sustainability event on 2 July, was born out of PGGB’s successful “Sustainability Behind the Lens” events in London and the Welsh PGGB committee wanted to showcase sustainability in the region and give individuals and companies the opportunity to meet, network and chat about becoming more sustainable and to learn about cutting-edge green technology suppliers in the region.   Twenty-four exhibitors are confirmed so far, including Facilities by ADF and Sunbelt Rentals, as well as Location One, Real SFX, Geo Pura, Location Solutions, Get Set hire and Infinite Renewables.  This is a free of charge open day for all film and TV industry professionals.

Commenting on the upcoming event, Edward Rastelli-Lewis, line producer and chair of the PGGB’s Welsh N&R Committee said:

“We feel so lucky as the committee to be able to host such a great event and getting to work with so many local companies who all want the opportunity to showcase their sustainability practices and offer a chance to network in Wales”.

Michael Beavan, Acting CEO, PGGB added:

“Now in our third year of ‘Sustainability Behind the Lens’, to witness this much-needed event grow and extend its reach to Wales is a proud moment for PGGB and our industry.    Our Wales committee, under the passionate leadership of Ed Rastelli-Lewis have created their own bespoke version, reflecting both needs and opportunity for more sustainable film and TV production in Wales and the surrounding regions and this is amplified by the calibre of partners who are co-hosting and supporting their event.”

Joedi Langley, Interim Head of Creative Wales said:

“I encourage representatives from the screen industry to attend this important industry event.  The Screen New Deal Transformation Plan for Wales is putting our nation on the map when it comes to setting high standards for sustainable practices that can be implemented across the wider UK screen industry, but it’s important that we keep working together, building connections and sharing knowledge.”

Professor Justin Lewis, Media Cymru’s Director said:

“We’re very pleased to be part of the PGGB’s Wales Sustainability in Production event, highlighting how Wales is rising to the challenge to ensure that our film and TV industry becomes the most sustainable industry possible.  Through a combination of the Screen New Deal Transformation Plan for Wales, Media Cymru’s funded interventions, Welsh production companies and freelancers are embracing new technologies and innovative new practices to accelerate the mission towards net zero.”

Louise Dixey, Sustainability Manager Ffilm Cymru Wales added:

“Ffilm Cymru Wales embraces this partnership showcase of suppliers who are delivering on the Screen New Deal sustainability priorities for Wales: shifting to renewable energy, rethinking transport, circularity, information gathering and collaboration, and behaviour change. Look out for our Greening the Screen Development projects.”
