Content Innovation Fund

Enabling Wales-based production companies to research and develop (R&D) innovation-driven content for commission to delight audiences across Wales and beyond.

What is the BBC Content Innovation Fund?

This new fund offers dedicated time and resource for indies to explore innovative ways of producing content – whether that be new formats, methods of creation or means of delivery. Up to five Wales-based companies will be selected to receive up to £50,000 each to develop an ambitious idea with innovation at its core. The idea must be for factual or sport and have broad appeal for BBC One Wales and iPlayer.

How it works

The BBC Content Innovation Fund has two phases:

Phase One – R&D – led by Media Cymru in 2022/23

Phase Two – commissioning – led by BBC Cymru Wales from summer 2023.

Successful applicants will carry out three to six months of R&D to develop a new idea and deliver a pitch deck and sample sequences. Companies will be matched with experts in innovation and user centred design to assist throughout the R&D process.

Please note applications have now closed and successful applicants have been notified. R&D begins in January 2023 and the commission process takes place summer 2023.
