Wales Screen Workforce Survey 2026 – In Review

In 2022, as part of Media Cymru, the team at University of South Wales ran a full workforce survey to establish a baseline understanding of the screen workforce in Wales, and where upcoming training priorities were emerging. That original survey formed the foundation of our training provision and, alongside industry input, has helped informed the design and delivery of the 22 training courses we have delivered between 2023 and 2026. Now, in the final year of the Media Cymru programme, we have reiterated and repeated that survey.

The Wales Screen Workforce Survey 2026 provides an updated picture of the screen workforce in Wales. It includes demographics, location of work, sub-sectoral distribution, as well as data on current training priorities, innovation capacity, well-being and working environment, sustainability and wider ongoing challenges and concerns. The intention is to inform where future training priorities should focus, and provide vital information in order to design and provide training that is sensitive to the needs of screen sector freelancers, that is appropriate, accessible and inclusive.
